Normally, after completion of repairs to laterals and/or mains, we try to flush the water mains in your area. However, you should note the following after water outages and line breaks:

  • You may experience increased sediment being stirred up in the pipes and more discolored water. To help alleviate this, run several cold-water taps (particularly in bathtubs because of the larger faucet) until the water clears and avoid washing laundry or using hot water.
  • Customers with compromised immune systems, infants, young children, and the elderly may want to consider temporary use of bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, and food preparation until the water is clear. Alternatively, you can boil your water before use if desired.
  • After all line breaks, water samples are collected from several locations and tested in a laboratory to determine if any contaminants or heavy chlorine residual are present.
